Hello PucaFam! Today we get to do something that has been on my mind, and a lot of yours, for a while now: Terminating the sale of PucaPoints through the website.
There was a time in the life of PucaTrade when buying PucaPoints made more sense for our members. In those days, trade activity was extremely high and point balances did not last long. Point sales acted as a buffer to help keep the flow of trade going, not to mention it also provided important revenue to help maintain the expanding site and service.
Fast forward to now, and things have changed. Selling points has become problematic for our members in at least two ways:
One, it creates a false sense of value for new or uneducated members. When they see that the site is selling PucaPoints at a rate of 100 to $1 USD, it acts as a pricing sticker for them. This results in members buying PucaPoints (or trading for them) at this rate, only to be disappointed when they discover the average promotion pricing.
Two, the sale of points requires that points are created. This reduces the effectiveness of our anti-inflation measures (point sinks) and slows our progress on the economic front.*
It's our responsibility to develop a site that protects the interests of our members. For the reasons above, and to be consistent with our new posture of prioritizing our members above all else, PucaPoint sales have been terminated. I want to thank Mitch and Chris for volunteering their time and removing the point sales from the website code and new member tour.
If you need quick points for PucaShield or Promotions and you have a Magic Online Account, please consider filling some of the MTGO Ticket Promotions. Otherwise, planning ahead by getting some cards in the mail, will help to make sure you don’t get stuck with zero points in your account. This is a great step forward for PucaTrade and our members— thank you for reading.
